Google Search Console Platform Properties: What Marketers Need to Know

Tree connecting search to youtube, instagram, tiktok, and x
To Top

Google Search Console now shows how your social and video posts perform in Google Search. On July 7, 2026, Google introduced platform properties: a new property type that lets you verify an Instagram, TikTok, X, or YouTube account and see the clicks, impressions, and search queries that content earns in Google Search and Discover. You do not need to own a website to use it. The rollout is gradual over several weeks, and the data starts collecting the day you connect, not before.

That last sentence is the whole reason to act this week rather than next quarter.

What Google actually shipped

A Search Console property has always been something you control: a domain you own, a URL prefix you can drop a verification file onto. Platform properties break that rule. You are now verifying a profile on a domain you have no developer access to, and Google reports on it anyway.

Each connected property comes with three views:

  • Performance report. Total clicks, impressions, average CTR, and average position. Filterable and sortable by individual post and by query, and exportable for analysis elsewhere.
  • Insights report. A high-level read on recent traffic trends, your top-performing posts, and how people are discovering your account through Google.
  • Achievements. Milestone tracking, such as crossing a new threshold of total clicks from Search in the last 28 days.

Four platforms are supported at launch: Instagram, TikTok, X, and YouTube. Facebook and LinkedIn are not included.

One detail almost nobody is reporting: Google ran a limited experiment in December 2025 that pulled auto-detected social channels into Search Console Insights. That experiment covered YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook. The July launch drops Facebook and adds X. Read that as a signal about where Google believes search-driven social discovery is actually happening.

What platform properties are not

Three clarifications, because the launch-week coverage has been generous with the word “huge.”

Not a replacement for native social analytics

Platform properties report on Google Search and Discover only. Native TikTok views, Instagram likes, and YouTube watch time from the home feed are not in here. If a Reel earns 400,000 in-app views and 12 clicks from Google, this report shows you the 12. That is a feature, not a limitation, but only if you understand which number you are looking at.

Not the same thing as Search profiles

Google launched Search profiles earlier in 2026 as public, shareable pages that collect a creator’s content for an audience. Platform properties are private analytics. Different products, overlapping vocabulary, easy to conflate in a client meeting.

Not retroactive

Like any Search Console property, a platform property collects data forward from the moment you connect it. There is no back-fill. Connecting an account today is the entire cost of having six months of history in January.

Platform properties vs. Search profiles vs. the 2025 experiment

Feature Platform properties (July 2026) Search profiles (2026) Social channels (Dec 2025)
Purpose Private analytics Public shareable page Private analytics
Setup You verify it yourself Qualified creators only Auto-detected from your site
Website required No No Yes
Platforms Instagram, TikTok, X, YouTube Varies YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook
Reports Performance, Insights, Achievements None Insights only
Query-level data Yes No No

Why this matters beyond a new tab in a dashboard

Search Console reporting has been rebuilt steadily over the past eighteen months: branded query filters, weekly and monthly views, generative AI performance reports in June 2026, and now platform properties. The pattern is consistent. Google is reshaping the tool around how discovery actually works, which is across surfaces rather than on a single site.

In most marketing organizations, social and search live in separate spreadsheets owned by separate people, and nobody can prove which one influenced a deal. Platform properties do not fix attribution. They make one piece of it visible: when a prospect finds your YouTube explainer through a Google query rather than through YouTube’s recommendation engine, you can now see the query.

The query data is the prize, not the click counts. Those search terms tell you the exact language your audience uses when they are looking for what you sell, sourced from a surface you could not previously measure. That language is usable everywhere: page titles, video titles, captions, service page subheadings, and FAQ questions. It is keyword and intent research from a channel that was previously a black box.

There is a strategic read underneath the feature, too. If Google is building measurement infrastructure for content hosted on platforms you do not own, Google is telling you that content ranks. A well-titled video can occupy a results position your service page cannot win yet. For a small team competing against older, higher-authority domains, that is not a consolation prize. It is a route.

Eight action items, in order

  1. Check availability. Open Search Console, go to the property selector, and look for the option to add a platform. The rollout is gradual, so its absence is not a setup error. Check again in a few days.
  2. Connect your highest-value profile first. For most B2B firms that is YouTube, because long-form video surfaces across Web Search, Video Search, Image Search, and Discover. Verification runs through an authorization flow and takes about two minutes. Data can take up to 48 hours to appear.
  3. Connect everything else you actively post to. Even a semi-dormant profile is worth connecting. It costs nothing and starts the clock on historical data you cannot retrieve later.
  4. Wait two to four weeks before drawing conclusions. Baselines first, optimizations second. Anyone publishing a “platform properties strategy” during launch week is working from a sample size of zero.
  5. Pull the query report and diff it against your keyword set. Look for terms your social content earns that your website does not target. Those are content gaps with demand already proven.
  6. Compare Google-driven clicks against in-app analytics. This tells you what share of your social reach Google actually contributes. If it is 2%, treat the report as a curiosity. If it is 20%, your captions and video titles are SEO assets and should be written like it.
  7. Rewrite titles, captions, and bios using the query language. This is the operational change that matters: one keyword strategy, two output surfaces. The same search intent research that shapes a service page now shapes a video title.
  8. Add the export to your reporting cadence now. If you build monthly leadership or client reporting from Search Console, add platform-property clicks as a line item this month so the trend is legible in six.

The honest assessment

For a solo creator whose homepage is a TikTok profile, this is a significant unlock. For a B2B agency, a fintech marketing team, or a healthcare technology company, it is a useful new input that will not change your quarter. The click volumes will be modest. The query data will be genuinely interesting.

We build sites and search programs for companies whose buyers spend most of their research time in Google, not in a feed. Platform properties will not reorder that priority. What they will do is close a measurement gap that has let a lot of social spend go unexamined for a long time, which is worth something on its own.

Set it up. Let it collect. Revisit in a quarter with real numbers rather than launch-week enthusiasm. Connecting costs two minutes; not connecting costs you a data set you cannot recover.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

What are Google Search Console platform properties?

Platform properties are a new Search Console property type, launched July 7, 2026, that let you verify an Instagram, TikTok, X, or YouTube account and see how that content performs in Google Search and Discover. The reports cover clicks, impressions, and the search queries that lead people to your posts. You do not need to own a website to create one.

Which platforms does Search Console support?

Four at launch: Instagram, TikTok, X, and YouTube. Facebook and LinkedIn are not supported. Google’s December 2025 precursor experiment included Facebook and excluded X, so the launch set represents a deliberate change.

Do platform properties show my TikTok or Instagram analytics?

No. Platform properties report only on how your content performs in Google Search and Discover. Native metrics such as TikTok views, Instagram likes, and YouTube watch time from the home feed are not included. Use the platform’s own analytics for those numbers.

Can I see historical data after I connect a platform property?

No. A platform property collects data going forward from the time you connect it, the same way a website property does. There is no back-fill, which is why connecting early matters even if you do not plan to analyze the data right away.

How do I set up a platform property in Search Console?

Open Search Console, go to the verification page or open the property selector and click Add property, select Instagram, TikTok, X, or YouTube, then follow the on-screen steps to authorize the connection. Data can take up to 48 hours to appear. Because the rollout is gradual, the option may not be visible in your account yet.

Are platform properties the same as Search profiles?

No. Search profiles are public, shareable pages that gather a creator’s content for an audience. Platform properties are private analytics that show how that content performs in Search. They are separate products with similar names.

Does this mean social media posts affect my website’s SEO?

Not directly. Platform properties measure how social content ranks on its own in Google Search and Discover. They do not show social posts passing authority to your website. What the data does provide is query-level intent research from a surface you could not previously measure, which can inform your website content strategy.

Should a B2B company prioritize setting up platform properties?

Set it up, then wait. Connecting takes two minutes and preserves data you cannot recover later. For most B2B companies the click volumes from Google to social content will be modest compared to website search traffic, so we would not restructure a content program around it until you have at least a quarter of your own numbers.
